And the winner for "best allegorical plot in an official music video" is...

"Cooler Than Me" by Mike Posner has a very cool official music video - the most interesting and thoughtful one I've seen in a long, long time, maybe ever. Not that I watch a lot of music videos, so admittedly, my basis for comparison is very small. ;-)

Whatever you think about the song, do give the music vid a look! I love how glasses are linked to worldview and self-image, and how the plot of the vid works with the lyrics. Also: The narrative frame is not just a pretentious lead-in and fade-out, it actually says something about the narrator's own glasses, and the world he sees with them.

A-ha's "Take On Me" still wins in terms of pure plot... although sadly enough, that song has nothing at all to do with its vid. But in the category "best allegorical plot", "Cooler Than Me" definitely takes the prize. :-) (While, of course, the honorary prize for "most fun had playing dress-up and basking in own sexy awesomeness" forever and always goes to Adam Ant with "Stand And Deliver" *g*.)

Do you have any favorite official music vids? Tell me! :-)
