So, I only watched a few episodes of HL and I never got how they got to be immortal, and if it can be passed on, via lineage.
It's never revealed where baby immortals come from - all immortals are foundlings. It's unknown who their real parents are, or if they even have any - as opposed to, say, being bred in a test tube by aliens or grown in a cabbage patch. ;-)
What this means for this particular Seishirou is that he's adopted (or perhaps stolen would be a better word in Setsuka's case). I've always considered that a possibility, anyway - after all, if you need an heir and don't care how you get him, it's easier to find a baby with magical potential and abduct him than to find a suitable man, get pregnant, and give birth to a child that may turn out not to be what you're looking for.
