Summary:
Detectives Nishikido Ryo and Taguchi Junnosuke go undercover in a gay BDSM club run by the mob. Ryo is not happy about this, though not for the reasons you might expect.

I definitely hope to write more JE smut! I have one very long story in the works that will be a while yet, but I suspect there will be more shorter ones, too. *g*

Which is not to say that I wouldn't be extremely happy for another comment, because I most certainly would, but that's just an author being greedy. :-)

There was actually one more pun - the lost pun! When Junno and Ryo are about to head into the dungeon and Shingo asks them if they're planning anything special, Junno giggles because of an internal pun that he just barely manages to hold back... I originally wrote it in, but it doesn't fit the story, because he wouldn't voice it just then.

And then I forgot what it was. O_O I know! But Junno remembers. :-)

What is it that makes that pairing somehow work?

Do you have five hours? Let me tell you. ;-)

The short version is - IMO - that they simply complement each other wonderfully well. Their individual strengths and weaknesses can balance each other out, and they have the right mindset to appreciate and/or handle each others quirks and weirdnesses. And despite all of their immediately obvious differences, they also have enough common ground.

Not that I am invested in this or anything. ;-)

It's a very unusual pairing; I'm not surprised it doesn't exactly top anyone's reading list. (Well, it would most definitely top mine, if anyone except me were writing it - but I do know I'm a weird one. *g*) I'm all the more glad that you gave it a try even though you didn't expect to like it! :-)

I am also very glad that Ryo's characterization worked so well for you - not only how he is presented at the start, but also how he changes and develops during the course of the fic, as a response to events and to how his relationship with Junno changes and develops. Characterization is a very big issue for me - the biggest one, in fact - and I always love it when I find a story that delivers on that score. That's also why I give priority to characterization in my own stories, even when there's also a lot of sex. *g* So I am very happy indeed that my Ryo succeeded so well here; it was important to me to get it right! :-)

We see how Ryo has changed and we are happy for him. Relieved for him. I can imagine him walking through those doors into a place that should be repulsive and nerve-wracking and dangerous to him and yet knowing that it's the only place where he can truly have what he wants and needs at that moment.

Yes. :-) It outweighs all the other factors at that moment...

Usually I can't read a fic this long without my mind wandering and leaving and coming back to it, but I read this one straight though.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't usually like Junno - it probably doesn't come as a great surprise that I do, rather a lot. :-) But it's wonderful that this story made you appreciate him at least for the length of the fic! And who knows, maybe you'll be able to see him with slightly different eyes in future. *g*

I hate writing smut because I feel like I'm using the same words and phrases over and over, telling something that has been told so many times that the shine has worn thin. But your writing isn't like that at all - it's fluid and graceful and beautiful and I'm so happy that people recced this because otherwise I would have missed it.

Thank you so much, I'm very happy and flattered that you think so! I also find writing sex a challenge, simply because it needs to work at such a visceral level in order to work at all; sex scenes are always among those that take longest for me to edit. And in the case of this story, which has the highest sex-to-plot quotient of anything I've written so far, this meant that the editing phase took half an eternity. But if the result turned out so well, it's definitely been worth it! :-)

...well, actually, I'm sorry to say, that my constructive comments aren't much more coherent than the ones I've left here anyway. Gah. But - okay. Going to give it a shot before my brain melts down again.

I thought your characterization of Ryo was really well done. As a protagonist and the sort of main POV, he did his job well by drawing the reader (ME) into his thoughts and feelings and the plot in a way that not only made me feel invested in the story, but also as if I was experiencing the story through his eyes. Of course, I also enjoyed just laughing at him. :) I also thought the way you wrote Junno was brilliant, but it may be my own bias talking; he was adorable and intelligent and sexy and almost irritatingly cheerful all at once in that kind of unfathomable way that Junno is. It's one of the most believable characterizations of Junno I've ever seen in fic based on his TV personality.

Overall, I think the plot and the development of Ryo's feelings towards Junno was very well paced and I loved the world that you built for them, and how very believable it is, not to mention how you cast the familiar JE boys into roles that at first seem very "what? really?" and make it surprisingly realistic and understandable (because, of course Nakamaru would be doing that, and I love him ♥) and also, I would just like to say, I laughed a lot whenever you brought up the evil gnome thing.

Lol, evil gnome. I just like saying the word gnome.

It's really hard to find a type of BDSM that I like, just because sometimes people go really extreme, but what I loved about it was that it was within reasonable conditions that this happened, no bloodplay or anything gorey is the best type of BDSM for me.

I'm pretty much speechless and in awe as of now. That was an amazing fic, the sex was hot and the bdsm/bondage was ♥ The setting and action was described well in detail and kept me wanting more.

If it were another Junno/Ryo fic, I probably wouldn't have bothered reading it (let alone think what the pairing would be like); I guess their personalities are at different extremes which makes it a bit hard to picture. It was the undercover gay bdsm club part that got me, though. But now that I think about, there could be potential for this rarepair.

I've read this over and over again since I found it last night; I've even pasted it into Tofu so I could just sit and read it after I got off the internet and I can't seem to stop just yet. I've always loved the way you write but this fic, oh god, this fic. I shall perhaps be more coherent in a few days but THANK YOU. This fic seriously makes it into my top five and I adore it and you both and I'll come back when my brain stops looping between Ryo and collared Junno and this is the best fic of yours I've read yet though I was really intrigued by the sparkly slaves in space AU. I also love that the ending of First Contact seemed more of a beginning than anything else. I also learnt a lot from this fic; I really did feel as if I stepped through the looking glass into a completely different world and it was so surreal, and you managed to compound that by switching between real life and that underbelly.

I love Junno. Junno was one of the first to get me interested in JE and even though I am obsessed with Arashi, I still love him and think he's horribly underrated and more nuanced than he lets on. I've always hated that he always seems to get the short shrift in fandom so you really have no idea just how much I think you're amazing. I seem to like Ryo better in fic too so.

I will love First Contact forever and ever and ever! ♥ (oh, and the length... I totally appreciate it!)

It's really great that you like the Junno in this story so much. Because the story is from Ryo's POV, I was afraid at times that Junno would not come through enough as a person - that the reader wouldn't get a clear enough sense of who he is (and why Ryo should change his mind about him, and then some). But it seems my fears were unfounded, and that is a wonderful thing. :-)

As an aside: You may have noticed that I am rather fond of the man myself, so I can't claim to be bias-free, either - but to tell you the truth, I don't feel that a Junno-bias is such a horrible affliction. *g*

YES, Nakamaru would be a great researcher and requisitions officer! He would be ruthlessly thorough and feared far and wide for his detail-oriented work-style. I really don't know who else would do that job as well as he does. *g* Glad you agree!

Junno/Ryo is a pairing most people find pretty strange at first thought, I find. :-) And I do understand why... but it sneaks up on you, doesn't it? Once you start thinking about it...
