Summary:

Oh my God. I couldn't quite believe myself, that I was clicking on a Ryo/Junno fic, but I am so glad I did because this is fucking golden. That was the best characterization of Junno I have ever read -- nuanced and poignant, with that ever-effacing cheerful, but that harsh side... absolutely beautiful. Your Ryo was excellent, too -- brash and cocky and arrogant, but with just enough self-doubt to make him likeable.

I don't know how much research you did for this fic, but it felt extremely well crafted, the whole seedy Yakuza underworld you created. The hints you kept dropping left me wanting more and more, although this story stands beautifully by itself.

There aren't enough fics like this in JE fandom. Thank you for writing a true gem.

And so am I! :-) I know that Junno/Ryo is not a pairing most people will immediately like the thought of... and it's a *long* story, and has some other possibly problematic aspects. So I am very, very glad that you gave the story a chance, despite the unusual pairing - and that you enjoyed it so much!

I try never to say never, but I don't have a sequel planned - so it's good you didn't feel there was anything left hanging in a troublesome way. (Of course, Junno and Ryo will succeed in their quest for justice, and Ryo will have plenty of chances to declare that he is *not* blushing, damn it, it's just hot in here!!, and there will be many more cases, and home-made gyoza, and other good things. *g*)

I love this like I love Ohkura (and I think that says something because I seriously love that man, a lot.) and some more, because there's OHKURA *in* it, and it had me cracking up of all sorts because -- yeah. I don't know what's funny, but I laugh at odd things according to others and well, in this case it's not a bad thing because yeah, the sex was great. (I hope it still sounds unawkward at this point, haha)

Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed the story so much! :-) And it's great that the characterization of these AU versions of Junno and Ryo works so well for you. For me, characterization is the most important thing in AU stories - when the circumstances have changed, it's especially important that the characters are recognizably and believably themselves, though of course appropriately different because of the different circumstances. If that makes sense. *g*

And the puns - yes! :-) Policeman!Junno is a little more restrained than Idol!Junno when it comes to puns - but there are puns in Ryo's future, believe me. *g*

I. Idek what to say to this but I wanted to leave some kind of comment because this fic, omg, this fic.

The last time I read an undercover-BDSM-type fic was years and years ago in a different fandom, and this beats that about 150x over, hands down. It's Ryo and Junno. What the hell. I am not even a big fan of Junno. Or, at least, I wasn't. Hel~lo, newfound Junno-love. *_*

The friend who linked this fic to me, she and I, we. We. Capslocked and flailed as we read the fic at the same time despite being continents and oceans apart (fanfic: bridging the transcontinental gap). And were generally "Jesus CHRIST." and "cantbreathe" and so on at each other.

i... i don't know what to say. it's such a douchey thing on my part because as a writer i love when people quote stuff and tell me which parts made them ~feel~ but that's pretty much impossible here because EVERY SINGLE FUCKING WORD. i must have been flailing to four different people in im and i blew off making dinner and breathing during certain parts and just. ryo's narrative. i want to say it's like what twilight was supposed to be, all real-time and choppy.

Yes, Nakamaru has a long-haired, pampered and arrogant cat who rules over the family with an iron paw. And Maru himself is indeed awesome - the best research and requisitions officer far and wide. Because details are important, and he *gets* that, and makes sure his detectives get it too, whether they want to or not. *g*

This is just... amazing. *___* I absolutely love love love the way you wrote Ryo and Junno and the dynamic you built up between them. I loved the background that went into the story and the way you built them both up as believable characters, and the fact that it is a cop AU. A believable cop AU. There are not enough of these in the world!

I just... really do not know what else to say. I would flail around like I did to a friend on IM when I was reading it, but it wouldn't amount to much more than starry eyes and lots of babbling and capslocking. XD;

That's wonderful to hear. :-) The dynamics of the relationship between Ryo and Junno - the way the relationship develops and changes over time, the give and take of it, how it all works and how Ryo's and the reader's perception changes - was one of the main things I wanted to get just right.

I was really wary of clicking on this for a lot of reasons, so it was a surprise that I really liked it. My bias is such that I would have appreciated more on the Uchi front, but I did like what you did there, translating what happened into the AU context.

While I don't read KAT-TUN fic pretty much ever, I like how you write Junno, and I also liked your Ryo characterization (which, believe me, is saying a lot XD). And mostly I'm just really happy to see long fic with an actual plot that still manages good characterization. And some very nice porn.

(Just one little note: Tsubasa's last name is Imai, so if they're all going by given names, he should be Tsubasa.)

The pairing and the premise was so weird that I couldn't help but click, and I admit I expected it to be completely horrible and stupid and ridiculously OOC, but I was so, so, so wrong. This is like the Susan Boyle of fic. XD This is so incredible. The writing and the characterization and just. God. EVERYTHING. It was amazing. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE MORE FIC LIKE THIS IN THIS FANDOM.

I loved Ryo's inner narrative so, so much. And his process from hating Junno's presence and feeling like he's been intruded upon, to being possessive and getting feelings for him felt so NATURAL, especially since you didn't go from total loathing to 'I-can't-live-without-you-we-are-kizuna~~~~~~~~~*~*~*' love in the blink of an eye. It was so... just. AUGH. GOOD. I don't know. I loved it.

Even the BDSM was perfect. I'm not big on heavy bondage and stuff like that, but I felt like it was just the right mixture of hardcore and not over the top. It was SO hot and I yelled numerous times when you stopped. XDDD I complained about you being a cocktease because lakshflaf that's just how caught up in it I was. GAH. I loved it. Jin is my favourite JE boy ever and I rarely read fic without him in it (and LIKE it), which just shows you how much I love this.

WRITE MORE. WE NEED MORE FIC LIKE THIS IN JE FANDOM.

Oh god. This was fucking gorgeous and absolutely brilliant. I wish I could give you a more coherent and articulate comment saying all the awesome things you did with this fic, but, really, I would end up quoting your entire story. And that's the thing, you had a great plotline, undercover cops at a gay bdsm club, it really does not get better than that (and I usually don't read bdsm, but my god you made it hot) and characters that actually feel like real people because you are so great at writing out their thought processes.

I loved how you wrote Junno and Ryo. Junno because he isn't all sunshine and smiles and terrible jokes, because he is more than that and I appreciated how you incorporated that. Especially when you wrote about how he was when he was talking about his dead partner, my heart just kind of broke because that side of Junno I love. And Ryo, my god your Ryo. His voice was so him throughout the entire fic. I also loved how you included Shingo and Ohkura, you really made me see them and it was hot.

Thank you so much for writing and sharing this, it was wonderfully written and executed, and I'll probably need to read this again just so I can appreciate everything.

That's great to hear, because it was one of the most important things I wanted to get right! Characterization is always a very major thing for me, but especially in an AU story, it has to be just right - so the characters are believably and wholly themselves, while at the same time being different from their canon selves the way they would be under the given AU circumstances. (Exploring this is, in fact, why I love AUs in the first place. *g*)

And yes, Junno is far more than he may seem at first glance (and not just in this story). I'm very happy you felt for him, and that you liked Ryo's voice too, and that Shingo and Ohkura worked, and that it was all hot! :-))) (I'm always a bit insecure about the hotness, so, yes. *g*)

Two people on my f-list recced this, and if they hadn't I never would have clicked on such a rare pairing. Anyone else who scrolls past it is really missing out.

This layout makes it really difficult to quote, but if I could this comment would be six inches long.

What I love in any piece of writing is when a writer gives me a realistic character with certain, defined personality traits - making it clear what this character would and wouldn't do - and then creates a story that changes that person, making it utterly believable that those traits have changed.

This part here:
Falling into the role is always an inner shift of some kind, but the exact nature of the shift changes, depending on the undercover assignment. This time… this time, it's something completely new. Because most of all, walking through the Ragaraja's door – duffel bag of fetish gear in hand – is a relief.

It's like inner bonds loosening and falling away. Ryo wants to touch Junno, and so he does – he puts his free hand to the small of Junno's back, flat against cotton and warm skin, just like that. When he slides his hand down into Junno's back pocket, Junno leans into the touch.

We see how Ryo has changed and we are happy for him. Relieved for him. I can imagine him walking through those doors into a place that should be repulsive and nerve-wracking and dangerous to him and yet knowing that it's the only place where he can truly have what he wants and needs at that moment.

I don't usually read kink fics, either, and I was impressed at the knowledge/research that you shared. I don't know anything about this stuff, but you presented it in a way that made it easy to visualize and yet not distasteful for those of us who don't swing that way. It was fun to read.

The parts that were humorous played well against the parts that were suspenseful. Usually I can't read a fic this long without my mind wandering and leaving and coming back to it, but I read this one straight though. Fantastic story telling.

Personally, I can't stand Taguchi. I hate his stupid smile and stupid jokes and I ignore anything with him in it. But ... damn you make him hot and beautiful.

I hate writing smut because I feel like I'm using the same words and phrases over and over, telling something that has been told so many times that the shine has worn thin. But your writing isn't like that at all - it's fluid and graceful and beautiful and I'm so happy that people recced this because otherwise I would have missed it.

It's a very unusual pairing; I'm not surprised it doesn't exactly top anyone's reading list. (Well, it would most definitely top mine, if anyone except me were writing it - but I do know I'm a weird one. *g*) I'm all the more glad that you gave it a try even though you didn't expect to like it! :-)

I am also very glad that Ryo's characterization worked so well for you - not only how he is presented at the start, but also how he changes and develops during the course of the fic, as a response to events and to how his relationship with Junno changes and develops. Characterization is a very big issue for me - the biggest one, in fact - and I always love it when I find a story that delivers on that score. That's also why I give priority to characterization in my own stories, even when there's also a lot of sex. *g* So I am very happy indeed that my Ryo succeeded so well here; it was important to me to get it right! :-)

I also find writing sex a challenge, simply because it needs to work at such a visceral level in order to work at all; sex scenes are always among those that take longest for me to edit. And in the case of this story, which has the highest sex-to-plot quotient of anything I've written so far, this meant that the editing phase took half an eternity. But if the result turned out so well, it's definitely been worth it! :-)

I'm pretty much speechless and in awe as of now. That was an amazing fic, the sex was hot and the bdsm/bondage was ♥ The setting and action was described well in detail and kept me wanting more.

If it were another Junno/Ryo fic, I probably wouldn't have bothered reading it (let alone think what the pairing would be like); I guess their personalities are at different extremes which makes it a bit hard to picture. Junno/Ryo is a pairing most people find pretty strange at first thought, I find. :-) And I do understand why... but it sneaks up on you, doesn't it? Once you start thinking about it...

It won't surprise you that I am convinced they would complement each other wonderfully well. Their individual strengths and weaknesses balance each other, and they have the right mindset to appreciate and/or handle each others quirks and weirdnesses. Given the right circumstances, they would be enormously *good* for each other - not so much despite all of their immediately obvious differences, but because of them. And because of the common ground that's less obvious, but that they do also share.

Ahem! I apologize for gushing at you like this - I got a bit off topic there. :-)

I'm very glad the "undercover gay BDSM club run by the mob" seemed interesting enough to you to outweigh the oddness of the pairing, and made you have a look - and that you enjoyed the story so much when you did! :-)

I've read this over and over again since I found it last night; I've even pasted it into Tofu so I could just sit and read it after I got off the internet and I can't seem to stop just yet. I've always loved the way you write but this fic, oh god, this fic. I shall perhaps be more coherent in a few days but THANK YOU. This fic seriously makes it into my top five and I adore it and you both and I'll come back when my brain stops looping between Ryo and collared Junno and this is the best fic of yours I've read yet though I was really intrigued by the sparkly slaves in space AU. I also love that the ending of First Contact seemed more of a beginning than anything else. I also learnt a lot from this fic; I really did feel as if I stepped through the looking glass into a completely different world and it was so surreal, and you managed to compound that by switching between real life and that underbelly.

I love Junno. Junno was one of the first to get me interested in JE and even though I am obsessed with Arashi, I still love him and think he's horribly underrated and more nuanced than he lets on. I've always hated that he always seems to get the short shrift in fandom so you really have no idea just how much I think you're amazing. I seem to like Ryo better in fic too so.

I will love First Contact forever and ever and ever! ♥ (oh, and the length... I totally appreciate it!)

Yay for the Junno-love! :-) I agree with you that he often seems to be underrated, or underestimated - if it were up to me he would get a lot more attention. *g* And he is definitely far more nuanced than he generally lets on; in fact, I find it pretty interesting in itself that he so often hides behind the clown facade.

I seem to like Ryo better in fic too so.

You don't like him so much in real life? Well, he can be difficult, yes. *g* But in some ways, I feel he's sometimes taken at face value in much the same way Junno is - just one facet of him mistaken for the whole person.

But whatever you think about real!Ryo - I'm glad you liked the version in my story! :-)
