I even suspect (rather strongly) that he would make the same decision if it were Sam who was dying... but that would definitely be *far* more painful for Dean.
Really? I think that the relationship would mean that Dean would sacrifice everything, including his moral beliefs, to save his brother... although perhaps he would somehow make a deal with the reaper to take him to save Sam... which would make me cry, damn Jensen Ackels for being so pretty!
Anywhoo, sooo not why i wanted to post, your comment just caught me eye. What I meant to say was OMG such a beautiful idea and story!!!! This is EXACTLY how both of the characters would have dealt with it and it is rare to find a fanfic that manages to adopt characters so easily.
