I'm very glad! It's selfish and ruthless and may not fit everybody's idea of Sam, but to my mind, it does work... Yes, that does work for my perception of Sam. I always thought he is very selfish and that Dean always gives and gives no matter what it does to him. I guess that makes Dean selfless because Sammy is everything to him.
So does Sam... though he does also feel guilty, because in some ways it is far *too* easy to be forgiven by Dean But isn't that one of the beautiful things about Dean? He'll forgive anyone given the time, but he never forgives himself. I always feel bad when I think about it, but Dean is so beautiful when he breaks or rips himself apart. Sam can live with mistakes-his own more than other people's (like John's stealing their childhood and Dean's refusal to shoot him)- but Dean's low sense of self-worth makes it so his own mistakes and shortcomings-even when they are not there-seem amplified. They're so yin and yang in that aspect.
This little fic is so revealing and touching despite seeming to simple.
