Tracking Fannish Migratory Patterns

Taking a page from louiselux's book, I'd like to collect your forwarding addresses in case LJ tosses us all out on our ears and we have to reconvene elsewhere. I'd hate losing track of any of you!

Although I'm staying put on LJ for the present - mostly because it's still the main fannish forum for now -, I've reserved placeholder accounts as "rheasilvia" on JournalFen, GreatestJournal, InsaneJournal and a number of smaller communities. Nobody else seems to be interested in the name, so if there's a rheasilvia, it's probably me.

(I'm also signed up as "sylvia" in a couple of places - this is because when the initial strikethrough hit, I played with the thought of going back to that nick, which was unavailable on LJ. I've now decided to stick with rheasilvia, though. Nothing wrong with a mythological touch. *g*)

Would you believe that this has made it to Spiegel.de? Except they're getting it regrettably wrong and confused with the mess in May.

I also thought about going back to kjulia, which turned out to be still available on IJ, at least, but I kind of got used to the underscore...

Wow... well, we're certainly making a wave. ;-) I'll check the article out right away - and thanks for the warning about the skewed facts. At least I can brace myself this way. (I *hate* it when journalists can't be bothered to research properly. Not that they're not in good company - quite a number of the articles I've found on the subject got the facts wrong. Not to mention a number of 6A employees. Gah.)

Yeah, initially unloved usernames do grow on you, don't they? *g* Rhea Silvia isn't exactly the most fascinating mythological figure around, but I've also grown used to her. At least she didn't have the bad taste to fall for Zeus. *g*

I was almost tempted to post 'Dude! Check your facts!' in the comments, but there's actually a sign-up process and I couldn't be arsed. It's annoying because the author has enough links there that some of the mistakes really aren't excusable.

Luckily for my blood-pressure, the article was already revised when I read it. *g*

I really like that there's never even a question of taking the pedophilia accusation seriously, and that the participants in the forum discussion (including the ones not specially imported from fandom *g*) are pretty unilateral in thinking m/m sexual fantasies about fictional characters are only natural and no more obscene than any other sexual fantasies.

I was interested in a Journalfen account as well, since its the spot where the chances of getting into trouble for NC-17 fics is smallest, but sadly they don't offer free accounts. :(

They do, actually - you just have to find a paying member to sign you up. Unfortunately, I can't do it since I have a free account, but people with paid accounts are starting to offer signing up interested fellow fans...

Ich denke, wir haben einander eh noch bei einigen Journalen gefriended, deswegen fülle ich diese Umfrage jetzt nicht aus. Im Übrigen plane ich nicht wirklich, zu GJ oder IJ zu emigrieren, weil das in meinen Augen sinnlos ist. Da spare ich mir lauter Umstand und bleibe bei LJ, solange bis eine akzeptable, fanbetriebene und realistische Alternative existiert.

Es ist auf jeden Fall am sinvollsten, erst einmal abzuwarten, was passiert; wirkliche Alternativen zu LJ gibt es im Moment noch nicht, aber im Fall des Falles können GJ/IS/JF immerhin als Übergangslösung dienen.

Ich denke, die Chancen dafür stehen nicht schlecht. Dauert sicher noch eine Weile, aber die Ansätze sehen doch schon gut aus. .-)

I already use journalfen at least as much and probably more than I use livejournal, since almost all of my writing is over there anyway. I don't crosspost to insanejournal or greatest journal at this point, but if more people I know start writing/posting over there, I likely would.

(also, I have a paid account over at journalfen, so if people need accounts, feel free to direct them my way if they're over 18, and I can request them for them. I'm just not on a ton during the day, so it might take a little while for me to get to the requests).

The one thing I really hope for in all of this is that everyone will agree on a single community in the end - I don't want to have to check five different friendslists each day. :-/

Well, I've been setting up multiple blog accounts these last weeks, but I sure hope I haven't turned into one (though it certainly begins to feel that way *g*). And I'm not "courting" someone(in case accout misses an "r" and not an "n"). Where should I find the time for that??? ;)

On a more serious note: I hope, too, that people will congregate again after being scattered. It's not that I mind multiple posting, but discussions and exchanges are hard to carry across different blogs.

It's the same with me. I'm pretty happy on LJ now (after a rocky relationship in the beginning *g*), but 6A *is* being really annoying, and it does look as though it's not going to be the fannish home of choice for all that much longer.

Oh well. We will follow the tides of fandom. :-)

AFAIK they're still in the early betaing stages, and the only accounts registered so far are strict betaing accounts.

As soon as they're open to the public, I too will be there with bells on. ;-)
