Tracking Fannish Migratory Patterns
Aug. 7th, 2007 04:17 pmTaking a page from
louiselux's book, I'd like to collect your forwarding addresses in case LJ tosses us all out on our ears and we have to reconvene elsewhere. I'd hate losing track of any of you!
Although I'm staying put on LJ for the present - mostly because it's still the main fannish forum for now -, I've reserved placeholder accounts as "rheasilvia" on JournalFen, GreatestJournal, InsaneJournal and a number of smaller communities. Nobody else seems to be interested in the name, so if there's a rheasilvia, it's probably me.
(I'm also signed up as "sylvia" in a couple of places - this is because when the initial strikethrough hit, I played with the thought of going back to that nick, which was unavailable on LJ. I've now decided to stick with rheasilvia, though. Nothing wrong with a mythological touch. *g*)

Date: 2007-08-07 02:59 pm (UTC)I also thought about going back to kjulia, which turned out to be still available on IJ, at least, but I kind of got used to the underscore...

Date: 2007-08-07 03:19 pm (UTC)Wow... well, we're certainly making a wave. ;-) I'll check the article out right away - and thanks for the warning about the skewed facts. At least I can brace myself this way. (I *hate* it when journalists can't be bothered to research properly. Not that they're not in good company - quite a number of the articles I've found on the subject got the facts wrong. Not to mention a number of 6A employees. Gah.)

Yeah, initially unloved usernames do grow on you, don't they? *g* Rhea Silvia isn't exactly the most fascinating mythological figure around, but I've also grown used to her. At least she didn't have the bad taste to fall for Zeus. *g*

Date: 2007-08-08 01:03 pm (UTC)I really like that there's never even a question of taking the pedophilia accusation seriously, and that the participants in the forum discussion (including the ones not specially imported from fandom *g*) are pretty unilateral in thinking m/m sexual fantasies about fictional characters are only natural and no more obscene than any other sexual fantasies.

Date: 2007-08-07 03:26 pm (UTC)They do, actually - you just have to find a paying member to sign you up. Unfortunately, I can't do it since I have a free account, but people with paid accounts are starting to offer signing up interested fellow fans...

Date: 2007-08-07 03:48 pm (UTC)it's just that - so far - I didn't know anybody owning a paid JF account.

Date: 2007-08-07 03:25 pm (UTC)(also, I have a paid account over at journalfen, so if people need accounts, feel free to direct them my way if they're over 18, and I can request them for them. I'm just not on a ton during the day, so it might take a little while for me to get to the requests).

Ooh, that's really nice of you! I've already sent akk_ your way (her comment that she's like a JF accout is just 2 comments up from yours *g*), and I know for a fact that she's over 18. Thank you! :-)

Date: 2007-08-07 03:45 pm (UTC)LOL! That she'd like an account, I mean. (What's an accout? *g*)

Date: 2007-08-07 03:52 pm (UTC)Also, no problem--I love journalfen, and I hope that the people who come over end up loving it too and supporting them with paid accounts and all that once they've gotten a chance to try out the system!

Date: 2007-08-07 03:58 pm (UTC)An accout is, of course, an entirely wonderful thing! Whatever it is. Err. *cough*

Date: 2007-08-07 05:47 pm (UTC)On a more serious note: I hope, too, that people will congregate again after being scattered. It's not that I mind multiple posting, but discussions and exchanges are hard to carry across different blogs.

Date: 2007-08-08 01:04 pm (UTC)No, no, not at all! You just bear a slight resemblance to one is all. ;-)

Same here. The posting isn't the issue for me, either, it's the keeping track of people, fandoms, hot topics...

Date: 2007-08-07 03:46 pm (UTC)Thank you for your offer to request a free account on Journalfen.
I was born in 1972 (as is also stated in my profile) and I would be very happy to have my writing also on a site where its R&NC17 rating is unlikely to get me into trouble.
:)
