Oh yes, he certainly does want to try! That's one of the things I love about him - he doesn't seem to know how *not* to try, even with everything that's gone before. Besides, he *wants* this, even if he can't let himself believe in it.
It is sad, but I also like to see it as being hopeful... and I'm very glad you liked it! :-)
