sundial_exchange at the last second - yay! Will Exchange Bears end up chasing me again? Quite possibly! But for now, I am just happy to be participating in something fannish again. And with luck, this will kick-start my writing, and I'll finally be able to finish my nearly-finished WIPs…
Dear Sundial Creator,
thank you so much for creating a fanwork for me! I’ll try to give you an impression of what I like in general, and what I like when it comes to Guardian, but please don’t worry if you have a different idea. I am easy to please, and anything you create for me in this lovely fandom will make me happy.
Also, please note that while this letter is fic-centric, that’s just because I myself am only a writer – but I also love art, podfic, vids and other types of fanworks. If that is what you’d like to create for me, that’s every bit as wonderful as a story!
Generally speaking, I like:
Casefic, action/adventure, AUs (especially canon divergence), missing scenes, first times, established relationships – really, I enjoy most types of stories. I tend to look for plot, character interactions, relationship development, angst (with a good reason), and/or romance between very different people who make it work anyway. I have a particular weakness for enemies to lovers plots, love against the odds, and unlikely allies/friends/lovers.
I love slash, but sex scenes are entirely optional for me. If there is sex, I am happy with any level of explicitness. My main interest in sex scenes isn’t the mechanics, but the emotional impact – I love it when the sex shows something about the characters, develops their relationship and/or advances the plot.
I generally do not like:
Non-canon major character deaths, character bashing, non-con/dub-con, plots hinging on non-communication, noble idiocy, woobification, kidfic, wedding/marriage fics, A/B/O, mpreg, AUs in mundane real-world settings.
Guardian (drama)
I love the Guardian series as a whole, but I am in the fandom for Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan and their amazing relationship. The worldbuilding really works for me too, though, as over-the-top and ridiculous as it is – it’s a feature, not a bug. And I am also extremely fond of the team, particularly Da Qing and his complicated “cat, mentor and best friend” relationship with Zhao Yunlan.
I would prefer a work based on the series only, rather than a novel fusion. And I would prefer that Ye Zun either not play a role at all, or appear strictly as an antagonist.
Optional Prompts
I wasn’t certain whether to include prompts, and I am going to be happy with anything that focuses on Zhao Yunlan, Shen Wei and their relationship, so please take the following ideas merely as suggestions! If you have a different idea, then run with it and follow where your inspiration leads. I would much rather you write something that grabs you than struggle with a prompt that doesn't inspire you. :-)

- Zhao Yunlan doesn't find out Shen Wei is the Black-Cloaked Envoy until far later, but of course does soon figure out Shen Wei is from Dixing; since ZYL thinks SW is a fugitive in hiding on Haixing, he tries to protect him from the Envoy
- I see Zhao Yunlan as hiding behind his breezy humor and extroverted facade, while actually being just as guarded as Shen Wei, though many people may not realize it; so I would like to see his protective shell cracked open in some way, through injury or other hurt
- A Dixing issue arises and Zhao Yunlan goes to Dixing to intervene/to help on behalf of Shen Wei
- Zhao Yunlan clashes with his father (maybe Zhao Xinci decides he's doing everything wrong and putting himself in too much danger in the process, and so actively tries to get him thrown out of the SID?)
- Backstory to the shield and crossed swords on Shen Wei's wall
- Zhao Yunlan trying to puzzle out Professor Shen's odd reaction to him and getting to the bottom of his mystery
- Young Shen Wei in the past trying to seduce the strange but beguiling Kunlun, and/or to puzzle him out and get to the bottom of his mystery
- Post-canon reincarnation where they find each other again, as promised in the epilogue
