Via naye and solo: A lovely new meme!

List six ships using only emojis, and see if people can guess them. I had a lot of fun with this, and since two of my chosen ships are pretty obscure, I thought I'd include an additional one so there's a proper chance of getting six right. :-)

I initially thought #1 was Mulder and Scully but then I decided #3 was Mulder and Krychek with #1 being Booth and Brennan from Bones.

You're right, #3 is Mulder and Krycek! My first online slash fandom, many years ago. :-)

#1 is not from Bones, though - it's a manga and anime canon. But I can see how those to emojis might apply to a number of ships!

Rereading some M/K sounds like an excellent plan - and I can recommend the as-yet-nameless manga and anime, too, although it has a very particular vibe. :-)

He was, but I think I would have chosen different emojis for Gojyo. This is also a manga canon, but not that one! :-) It's one of the obscure ships, though, so I don't know if you're aware of its existence...

It's actually very tricky to guess these, unless the pairings are already on your mind! The emojis can stand for so many things. I thought #1 was super obvious, but now I realize that it would be just as fitting for any number of government agent/forensic scientist pairings; that just never occurred to me because I don't ship any characters of the kind. ;-)

LOL, yes, it is indeed those guys. ;-) Otherwise known as Dorian, Earl of Red Gloria (it's a manga, the author had a rather reckless approach to European names) and Klaus-Heinz von dem Eberbach (the reason why Eberbach had an unprecedented number of Japanese tourists for a while - no idea if that's still going on *g*).

Drei von den anderen sind sehr große Fandoms und Ships, eins sehr klein - keine Ahnung, welche du kennst und welche nicht. ;-)

Yes, that's Clex! I thought the "is it a bird..." thing would be more obvious than it appears to be. ;-) But I think it's pretty difficult to get these in general unless a pairing is on your mind anyway.

I mean, to me #1 is *incredibly* obvious, but it's been made clear to me that it's actually very generic, and could also apply to any number of pairings involving government agents and forensic scientists. *g*

Yeah, with #1 after I saw others mention it, I vaguely remembered that Subaru wears gloves (I've seen the X anime but it was never a major fandom for me, though it's one of my sister's OTPs.)

And yes, I think it helps if you know someone's fandoms well; it's definitely easier to work backwards and go "I know this is a ship of theirs, so which one could it be?"

Seishirou/Subaru was one of my major OTPs for a very long time! The entire thing is obsessive and twisted in the typical CLAMP way, and the sunglasses and gloves are a part of that. ;-) Subaru wears warded gloves because Seishirou marked his hands when he was a child, so he could always find him again. And Seishirou wears sunglasses because he lost an eye when defending Subaru from an attacker... which he could easily have done without getting injured, but it was worth it to him to make Subaru feel guilty.

Love is not the word, but... they definitely can't quit each other.

You know Onmyouji? I love the movies so much, and Hiromasa and Seimei are so sweet together. :-) I really have to rewatch those movies, come to think of it!

Oh of course, you were the one who wrote that marvelous and tragic Guardian/X xover! (tragic on Subaru's part, what with Shen Wei basically being in truth what Seishirou originally pretended to be to him...)

I love CLAMP's aesthetics but most of the time sort of admire from afar more than fanning (okay I loved CCS unreservedly. And I fell for xxxHolic hard by accident...)

I haven't seen the Onmyouji movies in years, but yes, they're too much fun -- and so ridiculously slashy, oh man! Climactic holding and all... (seemingly normal amicable guy x weird hot maybe-immortal who's a little too into him...do we have types or what? XD Of course Zhao Yunlan is way more clever than poor Hiromasa, and Abe no Seimei smiles more, but they'd have a lot to talk about anyway...)

6. Could be McShep (it makes sense to me!) but it could also be something completely different...!

It's not spies, although I now realize that it could also fit spy pairings! :-) My only vaguely spy-like ship is also in the mix, but not as #1... and those dudes wear neither gloves nor sunglasses anyway. ;-)

Also not McShep - Stargate Atlantis never clicked for me, although I did try. And I can see the brain there, but (as a fandom outsider!) I don't think I would have chosen the opened padlock.

These are tricky when it's not a ship that's on your mind anyway. I really have no idea about most of yours, either!!

Ahh, the McShep thing is that Shepard's genes literally unlock the power of Atlantis...! So I thought it was either a very clever way of doing McShep or else I was completely off. XD

Ah, right! That's really the thing about most of these, they fit a lot of ships in very different ways. I think if I'd realized this before, I would have added a few additional emojis to clarify things!

6. Avon + Vila (B7)

Eroica was very easy for me to pick emojis for, although you are among the few people I thought would get it! It's just not a very well-known fandom, sadly... (But I mean. The sparkly heart! That is so Dorian. I even gave him an extra emoji because he is so very extra. *g*)

Captain America is in there, but not in #5. Tony Stark, OTOH, did not make the list. ;-) I've never watched B7, and #7 is one of the extremely tricky ones... another very small fandom that I think most people have never heard of. I actually don't know if you have!

Yes! :-) Well spotted. I thought the bear would work well because of the double association of Bucky Bear / Soviet Union, even though it might not be the first thing you associate with him. I couldn't find the right kind of star, though. :-)

I, also, would guess #4 as Steve/Bucky. And I love your rat and fox! I also feel very stupid because although your Dorian is very clearly Dorian, I don't "get" Klaus...

It is indeed Steve/Bucky! :-) I love those two, although it's one of those fandoms that I can only read in - I was never inspired to write anything myself. Good thing there are so many excellent stories...

As for Klaus: It's a little boar, and "Eber" means boar (Eberbach = boar creek). I don't think there is a Magnum emoji, or a fried potatoes one. ;-)

I don't think I know a single one, at first glance. That animal is a wild boar, right? Not a hedgehog?

Fox and Mouse should be telling me something, but it doesn't quite want to materialize.

It's really tricky! I've come to realize many of these could actually fit multiple different pairings, depending on which ships are on your mind - in hindsight, I think I would add a few more emojis to clarify things. :-)

It was never really a fandom of mine, but I guess I've hung out in the right corners of fandom to osmose Seishirou/Subaru. I would never have gotten 2, though I've heard of the fandom. I would have gotten 3, but been mad about it. 4 was the one I instantly recognized, because that was my fandom before Guardian ate my head (though I never wrote in it). 5 took me a minute, though I was heavy into that fandom around twenty years ago.

It looks like nobody's guessed 6 right, so my guess is Hardison/Parker from Leverage.

I really enjoyed Onmyouji, but I only saw it once over a decade ago. I was trying to get an Untamed pairing out of 7. ;-)

Why would you have been mad about 3 - is it not your ship? Ah yes, the hazards of fandom... (I mean, some of the ships people have guessed here are so very much not my ships that I could be fuming at this point... ;-) )

Oh, you are totally right, 7 could also be Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui! That didn't occur to me, but they are a ship of mine, too, so you definitely get a bonus point for that. :-) Though in Untamed, the yin yang symbol could stand for everyone with the sole exception of Soup Girl, so this combo would have been rather unclear.

I've never watched Leverage... #6 is really tricky to guess, mostly because I couldn't find a more obvious symbol for the second half of the ship. If there had been a magnet, I would have chosen that instead - though the unlocked padlock also works once you know who it is!

I would have been mad about 3 simply because I will forever be mad at Chris Carter.

I always associate archery with Wei Wuxian due to that sexy, sexy blindfolded five-arrow shot, but I was fairly certain the yin-yang symbol wasn't intended to be Lan Wangji, so my next guess was Jin Ling/Lan Sizhui, except I was pretty certain you wouldn't have used the yin-yang symbol there, either. So then I was stumped on that one.

Oh god, Chris Carter. *headdesk* That was such a trainwreck... though I just realized I have stopped being mad at him at some point. Probably because I've seen a number of additional canon trainwrecks since then, and have grown to assume TPTB have no idea WTF they're doing as a default. At least he got me started on the path of mentally editing canon to reject all the awful bits that don't belong in there because they are obviously ridiculous and I hate them. ;-)

Oh, right, I remember you told me about Wei Wuxian shooting impressively before - I confess I had forgotten about it again. I've only watched The Untamed once and can't remember that scene, so the only people I associate with archery there are the Jin father and son.

YES! It is!!! Full marks!! :-) Those two are definitely an OTP for me... but that canon is also more bugs than anything else at this point. Le sigh.
